Welcome to My Rally Campaign
My name is Scott Funston, I’m a junior cyclist chasing my dream of one day turning pro. After having an extremely successful season I’ve been selected to represent the United States at the World Championships in Valkenburg, Netherlands. It’s been a dream of mine to race in the world championships since I was eleven and through a lot of hard work and perseverance that dream has finally become a reality. Over the past 18 months I’ve work relentlessly towards my goal of being selected for the world championships. After narrowly missing both the cyclocross and mountain bike world championship teams in 2017 I’m very excited to compete in my first World Championships. My original goal for the season was to make the World Championship team but after I acomplished that goal by meeting the automatic selection criteria in mid November I decided to set a new goal of finishing in the top 10 at worlds.
Why I'm Raising Funds
I'm rasing money to help cover the costs of plane tickets and baggage to and from Europe. If there is any aditional money it will go to pay for travel expenses from earlier this season.
How I Got Here
I started racing BMX at the age of six and have been in love with riding my bike ever since. At the age of 9 I started racing mountian bikes and cyclocross. I moved up through the 10-12, 13-14 and 15-16 age catagories getting faster and dreaming of one day making the world championship team when I became a 17-18. Despite lots of hard work and dedication last year I fell short of making both the cyclocross and mountain bike worlds teams. Nevertheless I perservered and have been rewarded with an extremly succesful 2017-18 cyclocross season. I had some solid results in the early season UCI races which qualified me to go to Europe on a USA Cycling development block. During which I competed in four races over the week and a half long trip. The first weekend I placed 2nd and 4th at Dutch National races. The following weekend I finished 8th at the World Cup in Zeven, Germany and 12th at the DVV flandiencross. I couldn’t believe the success I had in Europe and can’t wait to return. After Europe, my next major goal for the season was the U.S. National Championships. After two months of training I continued my success at nationals when I finished second after a battle with Ben Gomez Villafane that came down to the last half lap. Now I’m off to Europe again to race the Hoogerhide World Cup and the World Championships.
There is no way I could have acomplished my goal without the support of others. I would like to thank my family for all the sacrifices they've made in order to support me and my team Rad Racing NW has provided me with the highest quality equitment. I would also like to thank Jim Brown and my coach Chris McGovern for all they have done to help me develop as a rider.
