To Be The Best
As former American National Road Race Champion (2012), I am following my dream to become one of the best cyclists in the World. I race in Europe full-time for Boels-Dolmans cycling team. My long-term goals include representing the United States in 2016 Olympic Games. I dream of our nation bringing home a gold medal from Rio de Janeiro Road Race.
How I got here
Women’s cycling on the international level is a great challenge for American women. It is a great challenge in terms of the magnitude of the obstacles one will face, and it is a great challenge in terms of the lessons learned and the experiences gained. From my first European racing experience with USA Cycling in 2008, I resolved to take the challenge to be one of the best women cyclists in the world. Through this experience, I found it essential to live in Europe in order to successfully compete on the world stage. Although women’s cycling is experiencing rapid growth in popularity, teams still have difficulty providing women with salaries that allow us to focus solely on cycling with the ability to support yourself with proper food, travel, equipment, and housing.
Throughout the years I have depended on my family, friends, flexible employment, and USA Cycling for support in following my cycling dreams. With this network, I won Giro della Toscana (2011, UCI 2.1), 2013 Overall Team World Cup Classification (with Rabobank-Liv/Giant), USA 2012 National Road Race Championships, and contributed to Rabobank-Liv/Giant’s number-one World ranking in 2013. I have extensive experience racing with the USA National team; USA Cycling provided a launching point for my career and I have since played a critical role in the execution of race tactics in the 2012 and 2013 World Championships that saw the team come very close to a medal. My future goals consist of winning the Richmond 2015 World Championships and a medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Road Race. Intermediate steps towards these goals include winning a World Cup and another major stage race, such as Giro Donne.
Ride With U.S. Matching Grant
My RallyMe campaign is getting an extra boost thanks to a dedicated matching grant provided by the USA Cycling Development Foundation. That means for every dollar I raise on RallyMe, it will be doubled up to $2,500. I was one of 10 elite U.S. women cyclists chosen by a selection committee of USA Cycling coaches and staff to take part in this matching grant program. With your support I could raise at least $5,000 to help pay for travel and training costs for the 2014 racing season.
For 2014 I am racing a full European UCI schedule for the Dutch team: Boels-Dolmans. We are currently ranked #3 in the world! As in 2012 and 2013, I aim to represent the USA at the Road World Championships in September.
There are so many people whom I can thank for encouraging me to see my true potential and sticking
behind me no matter what crazy endeavors I seek. My parents, my family, and my husband, have been there to support me and believe in me every step of the way.
I have had wonderful sponsors over the years, including Corey Hart, Steve Capobianco and Greg van den Dries of RockTape, Kristin Keim of Keim Performance Consulting, Chris Georgas, and Osmo Nutrition. These are the people whom have been with me for every pedal stroke endured.
Other Ways To Help
Thank you for taking the time to read through my profile. I hope to inspire those new to sport to take chances and follow their dreams. If you are inspired and would like to share my story with others, please feel free to share this RallyMe page on your blog, Facebook, email, or Twitter for continued support.
